Drift

The clients engaged Tim English design seeking a family home that embraced the combined rural coastal lifestyle and placed outdoor living at the centre of everyday life. Entertaining, recreation and connection with family and friends were key priorities, with the brief calling for a home that would seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor spaces while providing comfortable and functional living for years to come.
The design was organised around a central pool and entertaining courtyard, creating a natural focal point for the home and establishing strong connections between the various living zones. Large openings, covered alfresco spaces and carefully positioned pavilions blur the distinction between inside and out, allowing the home to respond to the Queensland climate while maintaining privacy, comfort and flexibility. Simple gable forms, natural materials and a restrained coastal palette were used to create a timeless architectural character that complements the surrounding setting.
The result is a highly liveable family home where outdoor living is not simply an addition to the house, but the foundation of the design itself. Every major space maintains a strong connection to the central courtyard, encouraging interaction, relaxation and year-round enjoyment of the outdoors. Drift delivers a warm and welcoming residence that captures the essence of coastal living while providing a functional and enduring home tailored to the way its owners live.
