Genki House

Following the devastating loss of their family home to a house fire, our clients approached us with a deeply personal vision. They wanted to rebuild, but not at the expense of the memories and character of the original home that mean so much to them. Their hope was to celebrate the home that was, preserving its familiar features, while embracing the opportunity for a fresh start. Achieving this within the practical realities of rebuilding costs and their budget was an important part of the journey.

Our design approach focused on finding a thoughtful balance between old and new, honouring the home's history while modernising its design for modern family living. We intentionally carried familiar architectural elements into the new home, including similar cladding profiles, materials, colour palette and the distinctive circular window. Perhaps the most meaningful inclusion was the retention of an original column from the former home, which will become a feature within the new front garden. This small but significant gesture provides a lasting connection to the family's past, allowing the memories and spirit of their original home to remain part of their everyday lives. Throughout the design process, we worked closely with our clients to balance these sentimental details with functionality, buildability and budget considerations.

The result is a modern interpretation of the original home, blending seamlessly into its surroundings while honouring the past and embracing a fresh beginning filled with opportunities for more lifelong memories.
