Our clients envisioned a contemporary rural residence that embodied the quiet simplicity and warmth of Japandi-inspired design, while remaining highly functional for everyday family living. They sought a home that felt calm, understated and deeply connected to its surroundings - one that reflected the relaxed character of its Inverness setting and fostered a genuine sense of retreat.

The design responds with a contemporary pavilion-style residence that balances refined architectural forms with a timeless, natural material palette. A series of simple gabled pavilions breaks down the building's scale, creating distinct zones for living, gathering and retreat while strengthening the relationship between the interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.

Warm vertical timber cladding, dark detailing and natural stonework were carefully selected to create a restrained yet welcoming aesthetic. Expansive glazing and thoughtfully positioned outdoor living spaces maximise natural light, frame rural vistas and encourage effortless indoor-outdoor living throughout the seasons.

The result is a residence that feels both sophisticated and inherently connected to its environment.
